P O M
POM is one of the key routines used when driving
It stands for
PREPARE - Prepare the car so that it is ready
OBSERVE - Take effective observations - Act on what you see
MOVE - Once you have decided it is safe, you may begin
The POM routine is used for moving off and when doing manoeuvres
M S PSL (MSM)
MSPSL is the routine you use when approaching junctions or hazards
It stands for:
MIRRORS - Check the necessary mirrors (mirrors are usally checked in pairs)
SIGNAL - Signal if necessary and ensure your signal is well timed
POSITION - Ensure your car is postioned for what you are about to do
SPEED - Adjust your speed accordingly and THEN select the correct gear for the speed
LOOK - You should be looking as early as you can so as to assess what is happening
It is the same as MSM - Mirror, Signal, Manoeuvre - the Manoeuvre part is broken down into PSL
LADA is the routine you use when nearing and at junctions/hazards
It stands for:
LOOK - Look well ahead and as early as you can
ASSESS - Assess what is happening or likely to happen
DECIDE - Make your decision based on what you can/cannot see
ACT - Act on your decision
